Rules
- You can only burn dry plants that are naturally found at the burn site.
- You cannot burn inside city limits unless you have a burn permit.
- To get a burn permit, you must submit an application to the city where you live.
- The burn site must be at least 300 feet away from homes, parks, businesses, or factories, unless it is on your own property.
- There must be a 50-foot fire break around what you are burning.
- A responsible adult who is at least 18 years old must be present during the burn.
- You need to have enough water on hand to control the fire.
- If someone complains and the complaint is found to be true by the Fire Marshal, Fire Department, or Law Enforcement, you must stop burning.
- You can only burn from sunrise to sunset, according to the United States Naval Observatory tables from the National Weather Service.
- Bringing materials, brush, or plants from another property to the burn site will make your permit invalid.
- No Burn Days are when:
- The wind is below 5 mph or above 21 mph.
- An Ozone Action Day has been issued for the DFW area.
- Rockwall County has a "Burn Ban" in place.
Materials & Items that Absolutely Cannot Be Burned
- Petroleum products
- Asphaltic materials
- Items containing natural or synthetic rubber
- Lumber
- Household garbage / refuse (including newspapers and boxes)
Authorization to conduct outdoor burning does not exempt or excuse a person from the responsibility, consequences, damages, or injuries resulting from the authorized burning.
